Windows Activation

How do I activate Windows after getting my laptop back from Dell? My motherboard was replaced and my drive was wiped with a clean install, however, there's a watermark in the lower right hand corner of my screen telling me to activate Windows. I've checked my bitlocker in my Microsoft account and did the same with whatever the equivelant is for Dell: no keys. I was on the phone with tech support, but because I got my laptop back after my warranty expired, they can't help me unless I pay. One rep said to do another reinstall, but that hasn't solved my issue.

I'm aware that the key is on the motherboard (or so they told me). Do I just crack open my laptop to get this key or do I have to shell out whatever price Microsoft is asking for?

PS: I was told a manager was going to call me with an hour of my last call and never heard back. If this is what I'm paying $99 for, I'd rather just use that for an activation key.

Although the Windows key was embedded on Dell motherboard, the license was activated when the machine was first set up during OOBE (Out Of the Box Experience).  That OEM license can not be transferred to a system with new motherboard.  However, the new motherboard should has been customized and licensed to the same specs as your old board.

Because your current OS drive is still holding the old motherboard ID, you will need to go through Windows activation troubleshooting, and it will update with the embedded key of new motherboard.  Just make sure that the system is connecting to internet.
