Dell Inspiron 15 3525 cannot adjust screen brightness and night light isn't working

My Dell Inspiron 15 3525 has an issue where I cannot adjust the screen brightness and the night light setting does not work. The keys to adjust the brightness do not work, but all other keys still do. Also in settings the area where you can normally adjust the brightness is not there anymore, however the night light settings are still there. The night light option won't work even if you turn it on in settings. Initially this issue wasn't present, but it has happened twice now. I don't remember if anything happened the first time the issue appeared, but after installing an update and restarting the issue went away. However, later when I tried watching a mkv video file, the screen went black for a few seconds before file opened and the video started playing, and then after that the issue reappeared. I tried installing updates again to see if the issue would go away but this time it didn't. If someone could help that would be great!
